The first membership meeting of the Fall, 2015 semester will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 5:00 PM in McBryde 655. This will be an important occasion when we elect officers and brainstorm our initial plans for the coming year. All chapter members are urged to attend.
The Virginia Tech Chapter of the AAUP will be holding a welcome back social on Saturday, August 29, at 7:30. All faculty and graduate students who are interested in AAUP’s mission and activities at VT are welcome to attend!

Jamie Daniel, the Director of Organizing at the National AAUP, will be on campus on March 18, to lead a workshop on organizing for Virginia Tech AAUP members. Jamie has worked in higher education and in labor and community organizing since 1982. She will be providing ideas, training, and guidance as we develop a campaign to build our chapter.

National AAUP staff members will be visiting Virginia Tech on Tuesday, February 10, to meet with our chapter and the Faculty Senate. Three meetings will be held:
2:00 – 3:30 PM, McBryde 655: VT AAUP Chapter meeting with AAUP staff shared governance expert, Donna Young, to discuss the current state of shared governance at Virginia Tech, and how the faculty voice in university decision making can be strengthened. Representatives from the Faculty Senate will attend.
3:30 – 4:30 PM, McBryde 655: CANCELED.
VT AAUP Chapter meeting with national AAUP organizing staff member Jamie Daniel, to discuss building our chapter.
5:15 – 7:00 PM, Fralin Auditorium: Joint meeting on shared governance with Faculty Senate, VT-AAUP chapter members, and national AAUP representative.
The Virginia Tech Chapter of the AAUP will hold its next chapter meeting on Thursday, Jan.29, 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM in McBryde 655. All Virginia Tech faculty and grad students who are AAUP members are welcome. We will focus on the current structure of governance at VT and how shared governance works at other institutions. Bernice Hausman and Wornie Reed will facilitate.
The Virginia Tech chapter of the American Association of University Professors will be holding its next meeting on Wednesday, December 10, in McBryde 655. All Virginia Tech faculty and graduate students who are AAUP members are encouraged to participate.
We will be discussing our continuing work here, and with the national AAUP, to advance shared governance. We’ll also talk about building our chapter, and plans for 2015.
If you are not an AAUP member, you can still join before Wednesday and take part in the meeting.
